| Job Accommodation Network |
| The Job Accommodation Network is a service of the Office of Disability Employment Policy (DEPT) of the US Department of Labor. JAN is one of several ODEP projects. JAN's mission is to provide a free consulting service designed to increase the employability of people with disabilities by 1) providing individualized worksite accommodation solutions, 2) providing technical assistance regarding the ADA and other disability related legislation, and 3) educating callers about self employmnet options. |
| LifeLine and Link-up Telephone Discount Programs |
| Lifeline is a government program that offers qualified low income households a discount on their monthly local telephone bill. Each state has its own guidelines to qualify. The application and qualification process differs by state and sometimes by individual phone company. Link-up is another program that helps offset the cost to initiate phone service. Choose your state and then your phone company to see instructions for qualification. |

| Social Security and Disability Resource Center |
| The Social Security Disability Resource Center provides information on the federal disability benefit programs, SSD (social security disability, mandated under title II of the social security act) and SSI (supplemental security income, mandated under title 16), in addition to answering questions about social security retirement benefits and providing resource links on topics such as medicare. The SSDRC is published, edited, and maintained by Tim Moore, a former disability claims examiner for the social security administration's disability determination services (DDS), as well as a former caseworker with a background in many federal assistance programs, including medicaid for disabled adults. |
| Vocational Rehabilitation Services |
| Each state has an agency or department with vocational rehabilitation counselors who provide assistance to individuals with hearing loss to help them obtain, retain and maintain employmnet. You should be able to find local information by looking in the phone book under the government/state section for Vocational Rehabilitation or Rehabilitation Services.
